This site is dedicated to the serious bowhunter desiring to hunt away from roads. You don’t have to be a conditioned athlete, have wealth or corporate sponsors to be a successful backcountry bowhunter. There are systems that can be learned and duplicated that will almost guarantee hunting success. Our goal is to provide all of the information required to allow backcountry hunting with confidence,  avoiding years of trial and error.

The mission of this site is to help ambitious bowhunters on a budget be physically and mentally equipped to have safe and effective backcountry trips.

The design and format of this site is critical to communicating the ideas expressed here.  Our design is a hybrid between a blog and static page web site. The latest posts will be in blog format on the latest posts page. Because each post will be informative and timeless in nature, they will be saved in the blog archives and added to a series of dynamic web pages that will have links to them on the right under their page heading. This will allow us to add to the topics with your comments, success stories, and newer pictures.Â
Equipment we use and recommend will be available through the equipment link.
Thanks for visiting the site. We welcome your comments and tips as we strive to build a solid community of serious western bowhunters.
Mike,
Really enjoyed your website as I am attempting to break into this approach. I hunted the Flattops in White River NF some many years ago (1975). I am just getting to a point in nearing retirement that I can actually consider making a western Mulie or Elk hunt beginning next year. Your enthusiasm and enjoyment for bowhunting that you write about in your posts is highly encouraging. I would certainly enjoy reading more!
Thanks, Bruce. I am enthusiastic because it is such a great system. I will post more often as summer winds down. Please email me as you plan next years hunts.

Great site mike, it hits the spot! I have had recent success with bowhunting for elk in the backcountry of Colorado over the past few years. I started bowhunting in ’07 and backpack bowhunting in ’08 after I read Cams book, then I shot my first big game animal, a 5×5 elk with my bow about 4 miles in. I’ve struggled with deer and finding this site has been a blessing. I just ordered Dwight Shues book and can’t wait to read it. Thanks again for such a helpful sight, I noticed there hasn’t been a new post for quite a while I just wanted to see if you plan on posting any new info in the future.

Thanks for the comment, Ramsey. I had great plans for this site, and got lazy. This may motivate me to get with it. I have had limited success with elk, but much more with deer. Your state is so full of great open country. With Dwight’s book and your country, you should have success immediately. The method really is incredible. Send an email and I will keep in touch.
Mike
Just came across your site and in the few articles I have read they are great. I plan to keep reading til the wife yells to go to bed and then read some more.
Going to be doing my first backcountry elk hunting this year in Eastern Oregon with some friends who have been doing it for a few years. I hope to use this site so I am not so far in left field when I am with the more experienced.
Thanks for all the good info the more the merrier!
Thanks for the comment, Tom.
Good luck getting ready for the elk hunt. I didn’t draw any deer tags this year, so I will be hunting the backcountry for elk this fall also.
I will continue to post on this site as the hunt approaches!
